Work Experience:

August 2003 - December 2003 Visiting Fellow at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. There I taught a course on the social context of education and conducted research.

February 2000 - July 2003 Research Associate with Eklavya at its Hoshangabad field centre. There I was conducting a participative field study on local modes of public action, and working toward a fundamental rethinking of civic education. Other major areas of activity included the design of culturally relevant curricula and teaching/learning materials in Civics, teacher training, running village libraries, computer aided learning, computers in local development, science education through tv, etc.


1996 - 2000 Assistant Professor / Assistant Director at the Academic Staff College, JNU (ad-hoc 1996-98). My duties involved executive charge of the the Academic Staff College, organizing courses, lecturing, etc. I gave classes on the anthropology of higher education in India, research methods and the use of computers and internet for research.

Educational Qualifications:

Ph.D. 2000, under Avijit Pathak at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. M.Phil., too, under Avijit Pathak.
M.Sc. in Anthropology, specializing in social anthropology, from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
B.Sc. in Life Sciences, from Government Mahindra College, Patiala.
