About

Aditya K. Jagannatham is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, where he also served as the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs. He leads the Multimedia Wireless Networks (MWN) Lab, working on the Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Signal Processing problems that underpin 5G and 6G systems — from sparse channel learning to beamforming with massive antenna arrays.

Beyond the lab, he mentors students who have gone on to postdoctoral and faculty positions at institutions including IIT Jodhpur, NTNU, Chalmers University, KTH, Linköping University and A*STAR Singapore, and has guided teams to national recognitions such as the Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship.

Bio

Aditya K. Jagannatham is a Professor in Electrical Engineering Department at IIT Kanpur, with a research career spanning industry and academia in U.S. and India.

He received his Bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, San Diego. From April 2007 to May 2009, he worked as a senior wireless systems engineer at Qualcomm Inc., San Diego, as part of the Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) division.

His research interests lie in next-generation wireless cellular and WiFi networks, with particular emphasis on ML and 6G technologies such as OTFS, RIS, ISAC, Bayesian Learning, Deep Learning for Wireless, massive MIMO, mmWave MIMO, among others. He has contributed to the 802.11n high-throughput wireless LAN standard and has published extensively in leading international journals and conferences.

He previously held the Arun Kumar Chair Professorship, and is associated with the BSNL-IITK Telecom Center of Excellence (BITCOE). His video lectures for the NPTEL course on Advanced 3G and 4G Wireless Mobile Communications are widely watched, and he has conducted several MOOCs on topics including Applied Game Theory, MIMO-OFDM Wireless Systems, Probability and Random Processes, Signals and Systems, and Principles of Communication Systems. He is the author of Principles of Modern Wireless Communications Systems, published by McGraw Hill Education.
