Assignments, practice problems on some topics and course plan will be  available on this course web site
In the lecture notes, some proofs are marked (*). Such proofs will not be asked in the exams.


Tutorial Classes

The assignment problems marked (T) on the assignment sheets will be discussed in the tutorial classes.  The solutions/hints to the assignment problems marked (D) will be given along with  the lecture notes or will be available on the course web-site. Practice problems given on the web site and the exercises given in the text book are usually not discussed in the tutorial classes and the students are expected to solve these problems. However, the students can approach the the instructor if they have any difficulty in solving such problems.



Evaluation plan

There will be one mid-semester exam. of 2 hours duration with a weightage of 30% marks. End semester Examination will be of 3 hours duration with a weightage of 50% marks. Two pre-announced quizzes with a weightage of 15% marks will be conducted. The weightage for the class attendance will be 5% awarded to those who maintain their attendance above 85% in the course, including medical leave. There will be no make-up for mid semester exam. However, a student who might miss a mid semester exam due to illness or some other valid reason should contact the instructor immediately.
