About me

I was born in the city of Calcutta, where I attended school and college, and have spent most part of my life till now. Calcutta houses a colouful and diverse population and is one of the biggest hubs for social and cultural activities in India. Having lived there for a little more than two decades I feel a deep bond with the place.

I did my schooling from South Point High School, Calcutta, passing out in the year 1999. I joined Presidency College, Calcutta the same year for a Bachelor's degree in science with Honours in physics. After graduating from college I got myself admitted into the Integrated PhD program in physics at IIT Kanpur. Having completed the Master's level courses in 2005, I am presently working on my thesis under the guidance of Prof. Avinash Singh in condensed matter physics.

Apart from research, my job at IIT Kanpur includes teaching assistantship. In the current semester I am taking tutorial classes for an undergraduate level Classical Mechanics course. Even though it makes my schedule a little hectic I really enjoy teaching and interacting with fresh undergraduates and am learning a lot from this experience.

Besides work, I take interest in studying and analysing the Indian stock market. This is a relatively new interest for me. The fact that it is possible to devise simple scientific methods for making predictions in such a complex environment as the stock market is indeed very intriguing to me.

I have always been an avid follower of sports, especially European club football, and my favourite club is Manchester United FC from England. I also like to watch movies from different parts of the world and during my stay in IIT Kanpur I have been lucky to watch some excellent films.
