I am Suman Guha, currently a Research Associate in the Department of Engineering at University of Cambridge . I completed my Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur , India where I worked with Prof. Sumit Basu and Prof. Sandeep Sangal .


Doctoral Research

My work in Ph.D involves study and investigation of Size Effects observed in materials undergoing deformation at small scale using a higher order Strain Gradient Plasticity theory . A large deformation finite element implementation of the scalar version of a higher order strain gradient plasticity theory (due to Fleck and Hutchinson, 2001 ) has been made by developing a code in FORTRAN. Several problems for materials undergoing deformation at small scale (e.g. nanoindentation, thin film indentation, micro-molding, crack tip plasticity etc.) has been investigated to explore how effectively the theory predicts the wide ranges of experimental observations reported in literature.
