Performed Flexural test and Gas k - bending test for clay based landfill cover soil to understand the deformation behaviour. A short-series of centrifuge tests are performed and suitable remediation measures were worked out

Centrifuge Model Studies on the Performance of Geogrid Reinforced Soil Barriers of Landfill Covers (Prof. B.V.S. Viswanadham, 2006-2010) - Ph.D. Thesis.

Studied in detail the deformation behaviour of the soil barrier under various ranges of differential      settlements by performing enhanced gravity small-scale laboratory testing (Centrifuge model test) and Finite Element Analysis. Influence of various parameters like thickness of the soil barrier, geogrid type, overburden pressure and settlement rate on the deformation behaviour of the soil barrier were comprehensively studied.

Conceptualized, designed and developed a motor based differential settlement simulator and successfully used it to induce differential settlements at high gravity levels.

Strain gauge based instrumentation on model geogrids to determine the mobilised tensile load of model geogrids under various stages of distortion levels was performed.

Exhaustively performed a series of geotechnical tests on soil samples for determining basic index properties, compaction properties, shear strength and permeability properties. Similarly, for model geogrids, basic properties like percentage opening area of geogrid, tensile load-strain characteristics and interface behaviour were evaluated.

Investigation of Landslide at the Bank of River Volga in Ulyanovsk, Russia (Prof. W. Krajewski, 2004-05).

Involved with the geotechnical investigation, examining the sliding mechanism and performing slope stability analysis (using Limit Equilibrium and FE methods) for a natural slope. Used PLAXIS for the FE analysis.

Successfully carried out an exhaustive parametric study and made recommendations on critical parameters causing the instability of slope.

Developed spatial liquefaction potential map using GIS technique, for a portion of South Chennai, India.

Used Avenue Language for computing the Factor of safety against liquefaction.

Developed Liquefaction potential map for the earthquake magnitude of 6.5 and 7.

Suitable Ground Improvement Technique for SASTRA Campus, India (2002-03).

Carried out subsurface investigation and suggested suitable stabilisation method for various distressed light-storied buildings in the SASTRA campus.

Analysed, assessed and implemented feasible and economically viable option of improving soil (top 3m thick expansive soil) by means of sand-gravel mix, lime stabilisation and lime-flyash stabilisation.

Soil Information System (SIS) for Various Geotechnical Needs - A GIS Approach (2001-02) - M.E. Dissertation.

Developed SIS for a portion of South Chennai, India using ARC-Info/Arcview.

Collected from various resources the soil reports, basic soil map, village boundary, land use, transportation network and used them for generating the thematic maps.

Developed soil map and Iso-strength map at various stratifications by using the complied soil report and additional field and laboratory testing within the study area.

Recommended suitable foundation type (along with a guide value of the bearing capacity) by using the developed SIS guide.
