Differential Scanning Calorimeter_______________________
|
The DSC (Diamond DSC made by Perkin Elmer) actually
consists of two separate furnaces for the sample and the reference sides. The
system can be divided into two control loops, the average temperature loop
and the differential temperature loop. The average temperature loop ensures
that the sample and reference sides are heating at the programmed rate. The
differential temperature loop maintains identical temperatures between the
reference and sample pans regardless of the different amount of heat needed
to enter the sample side. This process ensures that the sample is always kept
at the same temperature of the reference regardless of any changes that occur
within the sample requiring more or less heat flow. When an endothermic
process occurs such as softening or melting, more heat is added to the sample
side relative to the reference to make up for a difference in temperature.
With an exothermic process less heat is added to the sample relative to the reference
side. |

_______________________ Thermogravimetric Analyzer
|
|
This Thermo-Gravimetric Analyzer (Diamond TGA/DTA) made by
Perkin Elmer measures the weight loss of a sample as a function of
temperature. This is done by placing a sample into a sample holder that hangs
from a micro-gram balance during the entire experiment. The balance mechanism
consists of a sample pan holder suspended by a long hang down wire. The hang
down wire is connected to the balance lever by a small quartz link to prevent
static build up. The weight of the sample holder configuration is
electromagnetically balanced on the other side so that the balance can be
zeroed before each run. |

elastomers, fibers, metals etc.: The following analysis and measurements would be possible from this
facility: Poisson’s
ratio; Tensile modulus; Compression modulus; Flexure modulus; Tensile-creep
modulus; Flexure-creep modulus; Relaxed modulus; Flexure strength; Flexure
deformation at break; Yield extension; Upper yield value; Lower yield value;
Strain at X% elongation; Elongation at break; Elongation at tensile strength;
Nominal elongation; Hysteresis loss; R value, N value; Mullins effect; Etc. |
Brabender Plastic order, Germany _______________________
|
BRABENDER Plastic Order Labstation (made in Germany),
measuring mixers are interchangeable measuring heads which, in connection
with a Plasti-Corder® Lab-Station or Plastograph®,
serve for preparation of nanocomposites and testing the processibility of
thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers, ceramic molding materials, fillers, pigments,
and many other plastic and plastifiable materials. The measuring mixers
consist of a mixer backstand with gear unit and a detachable mixer bowl. In
addition to the electronic safety systems, they are connected to the drive
unit through a shear pin coupling protecting both mixer and drive unit from
damage due to overload. The blades are made of special steel.
Counter-rotation towards each other at different speeds provides for
excellent compounding and mixing characteristics. Heating/cooling is done
either through an electrically with air cooling upto a temperature of 500oC.
the following test can be done through the instruments: (1) Change of
rheological properties during the preparation of nanocomposites, (2) fusion
behavior of materials, (3) heat and shear stability of materials, (4) flow
and cure behavior of thermosetting materials, (5) filler, plasticizer, oil
absorption of polymers, (6) degree of
property breakdown, etc over a range
of temperature and shear rate. |

Specific Gravity Apparatus _______________________
|
Specific gravity balance is used
for the measurement of specific gravity of polymer, rubber and elastomer
directly. It consists of rigid aluminium. Plate is standing vertically on a
heavy cast base. The specific gravity scale is printed on the vertical plate
and a pointer is pivoted in fine bearings to register specific gravity value. |
