This course will include a term paper, to be submitted by April 19. Tentative list of topics for the term paper are given here: http://home.iitk.ac.in/~ketan/courses/EE%20609%20Spring%202015.html but you are free to pick a topic of your own interest. Working in groups of up to two students: 1. Pick a topic along with at least 3 representative papers (preferably papers published in good journals/conferences/book chapters) 2. Send this information to manjeer@iitk.ac.in by 15th March. 3. In case multiple groups select the same papers, we will inform you about it and ask you to select a different paper (on first-come-first-serve basis). Same could happen if you select a paper that is not very good. It is therefore suggested that you plan for 4-5 papers. 4. You are required to submit a short plan of action (1 paragraph) by March 22. Simply state briefly what papers you want to compare and why. For the term paper, you are expected to, 1. Summarize the main ideas in these paper, but make the whole report is coherent and convincing. 2. Solve at least 3 different sample problems in cvx/matlab and analyze the results. These problems could be from the papers themselves or their simplified versions. In many problems, you can use the codes provided on cvxr.com *as a starting point*. 3. Cite all papers at the end. Limit your report to at most 6 pages (including figures and references, but excluding the matlab code). Do remember to attach the matlab code with your report. 4. Please do not plagiarize. You cannot copy sentences from introduction or anywhere else. There is a severe penalty for lifting sentences/figures off other sources, and for other forms of plagiarism. The term paper should have the following headers (approximately): Title: Abstract: Introduction: Method 1: Method 2: ... Simulations/comparisons/numerical results Conclusions and recommendations (e.g.: which algo to use) References **************************************************************** Important deadlines: email ONLY to manjeer@iitk.ac.in March 15: email the topic name and your group members to manjeer@iitk.ac.in and include the list of papers that you plan to present in your term paper March 22: Finalize the papers and send the plan-of-action to (manjeer@iitk.ac.in) April 19: submission of reports (hard copies or pdfs) to Manjeer (manjeer@iitk.ac.in) **************************************************************** Grade will be based on how coherent the story is, and how detailed the simulations are. This project is worth 20%.
