Fields of Research

            Analysis of settlement of foundations, application of probabilistic methods to geotechnical engineering, pile foundations, rock mechanics, reinforced earth, granular piles, ground improvement methods, modelling and numerical analysis of geotechnical/ground engineering problems, vertical drain treated ground, etc.

Consultancy

            Design of embankment dam,  heavy machine foundations, aqueduct foundations on alluvial deposits, etc. 

Continuing Education

            Organised several Intensive Courses, one National Seminar and one Workshop for engineering college teachers and practicing engineers.

Curriculum Development

            Drafted a new four B. Tech. program as Member of Senate Undergraduate Review Committee and the new two year professional program for Civil Engineers as Convenor, Departmental Review Committee; Developed a new course Ground Engineering based on various Ground Improvement Techniques.

            High level summer consultancy; worked on design of foundations for liquid storage tanks, pile foundations, embankments on soft clays, and evaluated different methods of installation of granular piles.

            Carried out research on batter piles subjected to downdrag, piles subject to combined axial and lateral loads and moment; batter piles and pile groups; buckling of piles.

            Developed and taught courses on Settlement Analysis, Soil-Foundation Interaction, Numerical Methods in Geotechnical Engineering in addition to teaching  regular courses.

RESEARCH AREAS: Initially Bent Piles, Application of Mathematical Programming Techniques to Geotechnical Engineering; Non-Darcy Flow through Porous Media.

CONSULTANCY: Stability of coal handling plant, Settlement analysis of large aqueduct foundations.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Organised three short term courses for engineering college teachers and practicing engineers.
