Group Discussions

Group meetings are intended to disburse certain ideas amongst different members of the group. Currently we are discussing the first 10 chapters of "Solid State Physics" by Ashcroft and Mermin. In the past, we had discussed various aspects of the Statistical Mechanics of Phase transitions during Group meetings. The discussions are following the relevant chapters in the book titled "Stastistical Mechanics" by Kerson L. Huang.

The Physical Chemistry group meeting involves a presentation from one of the Physical Chemistry faculty/student about their work or some interesting problem in Physical Chemistry. These meetings were held every few weeks and often had visitors to the department give them.

In the past, we had a Journal Club discussion on Statistical Mechanics. Students of our group and the research group of Sutapa Mukherji typically attended this meeting. During these meetings, we discuss some recent paper on a topic related to Statistical Mechanics. We have had discussions on role of noise in biological systems, gene regulatory networks.
