Details of the Lloyd's Tensile Testing Equipment
The Lloyd’s Tensile Testing Machine or Universal Testing Machine has the following components:
· Load cell
· Control Panel
· Moving cross-head
· Grips
The tensile sample is gripped at both ends by the grips. The grips used vary with the kind of sample to be tested. The bottom grip is fixed while the grip at the top end is connected to a moving cross-head. In a typical tensile test, the cross-head moves at a pre-specified constant velocity (which is set using the connected computer) so that the sample is deformed at a constant strain rate. As the sample deforms the load is continuously monitored using the software. The data acquired by the computer can then be displayed as a load-displacement curve. All the data acquired can then be exported to excel sheets where further calculations can be done for stress, strain and all other variables
