I am Sanjeev Kumar, a research scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. I am working under the supervision of Prof Prabhat Munshi and Prof Arun K Saha. I did M.Tech. (Laser Tech., 2010) from IIT Kanpur and M.Sc. (Physics, 2005) from Bareilly College, Bareilly. I secured All India Rank 98 in GATE-2008 (Physics). I also have Certificate of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Research Interests –

My research interest is "Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) of multi-phase flows in circular pipes and its industrial applications". During my PhD, I have developed a code to analyze the "Mono-Dispersed Turbulent Bubbly Two-Phase Flow in Circular Pipes". The developed code has been validated against numerous benchmark problems and the published experimental results for various flow conditions. The turbulent pipe flow with different wall heating conditions, natural convection problems in closed cavity, Rayleigh-Benard convection, turbulent diffusion of nigrosine dye, boron transport in a pipe, single channel of a NEA/OECD/PWR benchmark problem, air-water two-phase bubbly flow in a pipe and mercury-nitrogen two-phase flow in a LMMHD loop are a few test cases that were simulated to validate the developed code.

I have ample experience to model CFD related problems using commercially available softwares namely Ansys FLUENT 14.0, ICEM-CFD and Gambit. Using these softwares, I have performed three-dimensional simulations of Mercury-Nitrogen flow in a cylindrical pipe of "Liquid Metal Magneto Hydrodynamic (LMMHD) loop." This setup was installed at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre BARC, Mumbai, India. I also have good command on 3D Space-Time Kinetics Code 'TRIKIN'. I reproduced many benchmark results of PWRs using code 'TRIKIN' and the results have been published in a reputed international journal.

M. Tech. – We present an algorithm to measure the size and position of a spherical absorber hidden within the turbid media, with the help of diffused photon density waves (DPDW). We use a phased array technique with two out of phase sources, and propose the measurement of the spatially resolved phase of the DPDW. We are able to determine the exact location of the inhomogeneity and also obtain its size. We discuss the sensitivity of this technique on various parameters like the modulation frequency, sources separation, etc. We find that this technique is more sensitive than the single source technique and other phased array techniques that do not involve spatially resolved measurement.
