About me
Thank you for visiting my Cyber Home!
I am a Full Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK). I am also a DST Swarnajayanti Fellow, P K Kelkar Research Fellow of IIT Kanpur and INSA Young Scientist. I lead the Experimental Rock Deformation Laboratory in IIT Kanpur. The laboratory is also a NATIONAL FACILITY of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Along with my students, I try to understand the mechanical response of composite rock systems at various deformation conditions.
I received my PhD degree [PhD Thesis] from Jadavpur University, India, in 2007. Prof. Nibir Mandal was my PhD supervisor. Between 2007 and 2009, I did my post-doctoral research at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. The research was focused on achieving a better understanding on the micro-process of rock mechanics by high pressure and temperature experimental rock deformation. In 2009, I was offered a lecturer position in the same department in ETH Zurich and worked as a full-time lecturer and researcher for the next four years until 2012. After my time at ETH Zurich, I spent about two and half years in New Zealand as a Senior Scientist at GNS Science, Wellington, New Zealand.
When I am not in my lab or office, I spend time with my hand-made paper and water colours (see the arcade). I also practice North Indian Classical Music and play the Sarod, a traditional instrument with 25 strings. I follow Senia Maihar Gharana.
This website is meant to share information related to my research, publications, achievements and important highlights. If interested, please browse and enjoy.
