About Me
I was born on 25th October 1984 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh to Smt. Bhagyalakhsmi Bandaru and Shri. Niranjan Bandaru. Soon after, my family moved to Port Blair. We were there for about four years before shifting to Visakhapatnam in 1991. Almost my entire schooling was from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sri Vijaynagar. In 2000, I secured a school First in class X and later joined a private coaching institute for preparing for IIT-JEE. This also meant that I had to change over to Intermediate (Andhra Pradesh state board) syllabus. While I could not secure a good enough rank in IIT-JEE, I obtained 95% in Intermediate and an equally good rank in EAMCET (Engineering and Medicine Common Entrance Test) which got me a seat in Mechanical Engineering at Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam. I excelled in engineering studies with a University (JNTU) First in the very first year. This I achieved once again in the third semester. The dream of getting into an IIT had not ended in my Intermediate. I appeared for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in 2005 and secured an all India rank of 49 (99.78 percentile). I completed my Bachelor's in 2006 with an overall University rank of 8 and joined the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur for my Post Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
As in the case of any student, IIT completely changed my outlook towards life. The two years of my Master's were intellectually very stimulating and this was when I got the first taste of research. I completed my Master's with a CPI of 9.75 and with the intention of gaining some industrial exposure before starting my Ph.D., joined Tata Motors, Pune in August 2008. I worked in the Crash Test Facility of the Engineering Research Centre as a Development Manager for exactly an year and came back to IIT Kanpur for pursuing a Doctoral degree.
I have an elder brother Janith Bandaru, now married to Kiranmai. Both are working for HSBC in Visakhapatnam. On 26th July 2010 they were blessed with a daughter, Jasmitha.
Currently, I am in the third year of my Ph.D. I started my research work under the supervision of Dr. Kalyanmoy Deb, considered one of the pioneers in the field of multi-objective optimization and evolutionary algorithms. I had the privilege of working under his guidance during my Master's as well. I am a member of Dr. Deb's research lab, Kanpur Genetic Algorithms Laboratory (KanGAL).
