Glacial Lake Survey High-Altitude Expedition Team Fieldwork near Mana Pass

I participated in a high-altitude research expedition conducted under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

The expedition focused on field investigations of a high-risk glacial lake near Ghastoli, Uttarakhand (30.8566° N, 79.4705° E), aimed at understanding potential Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) hazards.

A rapidly forming and potentially dangerous glacial lake near Rattakona (RattaKona), located close to the Mana Pass in the Chamoli district near the Indo–China border was a key focus area of the study.

I was part of a 10-member interdisciplinary research team comprising researchers from Delhi Technological University (DTU) and IIT Roorkee. The team underwent 10 days of acclimatization and training while stationed at an Indian Army camp before proceeding with the high-altitude field surveys.
