Hegde is
currently a Professor and Umang
Gupta Chair in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. He was also the P.K. Kelkar Fellow (2009-13) at IIT Kanpur. He has served as Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering (2020 - 2023) and as the Head of the Center for
Continuing Education (CCE) (2019 - 2021) at IIT Kanpur. His
areas
of interest include Machine Learning, AI, future
wireless networks, pervasive/mobile communication, WSN,
IoT, speech/audio processing for ASR and VR, Tactile Internet, and multimodal
information fusion.
He also has considerable interest in robotics
applications. Between 2023 to 2024, He has served as the Dean
(Research and Development) at IIT Dharwad, while on Leave from IIT
Kanpur.
