How to Reach IIT Kanpur
IIT, Kanpur campus is spread
over 1055 acres of land located off the Grand Trunk Road about 16 km
west of Kanpur city. It is a residential campus offering accommodation
to about 400 faculty members, about 700 support staff members, and more
than 8000 students.
Arrival by AIR:
Participants coming to Kanpur by air are strongly recommended to fly
into Lucknow Airport. Lucknow airport is located about 90 Kms. from IIT
Kanpur. You can hire taxis at the airport. The typical cost will be
between Rs. 2000 and Rs. 2500, depending on the vehicle used. It takes
about two hours to drive from the Lucknow airport to the IITK. It
is not recommended to fly to Kanpur airport.
Arrival by TRAIN:
Kanpur Central Railway station is well connected to most cities in
North, East and Central India. It is located on the Delhi-Kolkata train
route and all major trains between these cities usually pass through
Kanpur. IIT Kanpur is located at a distance of about 16 kilometers from
the Kanpur Central Railway Station. It is possible to hire taxis (about
Rs. 450) and autorickshaws (about Rs.250) to IITK from the railway
station. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from Kanpur Central railway
station to IIT Kanpur.
Arrival by Road
Kanpur is connected on NH2 running between Amritsar and Kolkata and
connecting cities like Delhi, Agra, Allahabad, Patna. It is about 480 km
from Delhi through this highway. Kanpur is also connected to Lucknow on
NH25 and is about 90 km from Lucknow. Kanpur is connected to Delhi (440
Km) through another parallel highway NH81 passing through
Ghaziabad, Aligarh.
