The Following 7 member team represented the country at IPhO '99 held at Padua, Italy in July 1999.

IPhO-99 Theoretical competition was held on July 22 1999. It consisted of three theoretical problems, each of maximum points 10. IPhO-99 experimental competition was held on July 20, 1999. It consisted of one experimental problem of 20 points (Total points : 50). The competitions were of 5 hours duration each.

All 5 students secure MEDALS! :

Amit Agarwal, Harsha Madhyastha, Mayank Rawat, and Bala Sandeep received Silver medals.
Raju Suvrat received a Bronze medal.
Mayank Rawat missed the Gold medal.by a mere 0.2 point! Raju Suvrat missed the Silver medal by a mere 0.1 point!

Thus all the five members of the Indian Team received medals..

A highlight of the India performance was receiving one of the five special prizes :

Organizer's Prize: Raju Sevrat recieved the prize for the best solution to theory problem number two. This problem was based on a famous debate on electromagnetism in the last century. He recieved the award from Prof Carllo Rubbia who received the nobel prize for work on the electro-weak interaction. Only five special prizes were officially awarded this year.
