Ground Station

The role of Ground Station is to control the satellite payloads and other components. If there is no communication between satellite and Ground Station then we do not even know that our satellite exists in space or not. There will be full duplex communication between the satellite and ground station.Every day the role of the ground station will be only for maximum of 60 minutes, when satellite will come in the field of view. For other time the simulations will be running in the background for doing the analysis of the past data collected . The primary components of the ground station can be divided into the following three parts:

  1. Antenna and its Tracking System
  2. Transceivers, LNA and accessories for interfacing antenna with control computer
  3. Control computer further connected to the remote server through reliable Intranet connection.

In fact, multiple ground stations are being planned - 1 Master and 2 slave. In normal mode, master station will be used to send and receive data from satellite. On the other hand slave has permissions to only receive the data. Just in case if something goes bad somewhere with the master station, then any of the two slave can take the role of master station. These three stations will be located at different locations. The location of the Master station will be on the faculty roof. And the control computer will be sitting on a room on the sixth floor. That computer will be connected through network with the central server sitting in the Media center. The data collected will be useful for studying the performance of the components used in the satellite. Other than that the near IR images collected could be useful for studying the vegetation pattern.
