Project Overview - The main aim of the project is to provide training on smart grid technology to the students, researchers, academicians, industry people, and other interested community people, carry out research on identified areas of smart grid, and provide entrepreneurship fellowship and incubation support, with the help of Start-up Innovation and Incubation Centre (SIIC) IIT Kanpur, to the technology ideas in the smart grid domain.
• Internet of Things for Smart Grid: Selected applications on visualization, monitoring, and Control of power system network. Funding agency: IIT Kanpur. Project duration: Nov. 2018 to Oct. 2020. Project Overview - The main aim of the project is to develop innovative methodologies and frameworks to utilize IoT in smart grid for enhancing visualization, monitoring, protection, control, and restoration operations of a widely dispersed power system network, such as the one in India.
• Development of R&D platform for smart city projects in the Indian context. Funding agency: the Ministry of Power (MoP), India and IIT Kanpur. Project duration: Dec. 2014 to June. 2021. Role: Co-PI. Project Overview - The pilot project will evaluate various existing smart city technologies, and also develop and identify the technology, methods and algorithms needed to overcome the shortcomings of the existing techniques. This study will also provide a roadmap to deploy the smart city based technology in the Indian environment.
• UI-ASSIST (US-India collAborative for smart diStribution System wIth STorage). Funding agency: Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) & DST, India and DOE, USA. Project duration: Sep. 2017 to Sep. 2023. Role: PI & Co-PI. Project Overview - This project brings together multi-disciplinary team having members from India and USA to address essential issues related to the adoption and deployment of smart grid concepts along with Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) including storage in the distribution network for its efficient and reliable operation. Analysis and technology tools for smart operations of interconnected microgrids including DER and storage will also be developed. In addition to developing technical solutions, the UI-ASSIST team will also investigate the societal acceptance, impact and value of the integrative solutions of smart meters, renewable energy, storage and microgrid solutions, along with the policy implications.
