Personal Profile

I graduated with a B. Sc. (Engg)  degree in Metallurgical Engineering from NIT Rourkela, in 1981. I then worked for Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd.  for about three years, largely in project management. In the year 1984 I moved to USA to do a Ph.D. on media mechanics in tumbling mills using the discrete element method.  After my Ph.D. I worked at the Comminution Center of the University of Utah for about three years. In the year 1993, I  moved to IIT Kanpur to start my teaching career. Here, my teaching and research efforts have been focused  on a variety of particulate materials ranging from  mineral to phosphor particles.
