About Acoustics Lab

Dhwani Lab

The Dhwani Laboratory at IIT Kanpur conducts research in areas of acoustics, noise and its control, speech, acoustic transducers, vibrations and NVH. Additionally, several of its members are also actively engaged in New Product Design requiring integration of diverse technologies. Further, the Lab also engages in adjacent areas of research including those of composite structures, and dynamics. The Laboratory is actively engaged in supporting the needs of several national R&D organizations as well as the private sector.

The Dhwani Lab constitutes of a bright team of passionate PhD, MTech, and BTech students. You can access their profiles here. The Lab is headed by Dr. Nachiketa Tiwari.

The Lab is equipped with a wide suite of facilities to support both numerical as well as experimental investigations. Prominent amongst these facilities are: Anechoic chamber, 3D digital image correlation system , a silent room, advanced computational facilities for large scale simulation, a comprehensive suite of microphones for measuring sound signals, robust data acquisition systems to which can collect as much as 64 signals in real time simultaneously, an assortment of amplifiers, mixers, an impedance tube to characterize sound absorption characteristics of materials, a 4-channel strain gage measuring system, lased based displacement and velocity sensors, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and a robust suite of several accelerometers.

The Lab is also equipped with a wide spectrum of software to support diverse modelling and analysis needs. Our software suite includes ADAMS, NASTRAN, Mathematica, Orcad PSPice, Actran, COMSOL, and AutoDesk Inventor.
