IEEE EDS MQ

In 2025, we reached an important milestone: 100 years of the Field Effect Transistor (FET). The first concept of the FET was documented in a Canadian patent filed by Julius Lilienfeld on 22 October 1925. Over the past century, the development and innovations of the FET have been fundamental in enabling integrated circuits for computing, memory, communications, and countless other applications.

To commemorate this historic occasion, the IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS) has launched a series of activities under the banner of “100 Years of the FET” (abbreviated as “FET100”) spanning 2025–2026.

This IEEE EDS Mini-Colloquium proudly celebrates the 100th anniversary of the FET, a key innovation that laid the foundation for integrated circuits and numerous applications in computing and communications.
