Dr.Vivek Verma is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK). He received his B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Madras and his Ph.D. in Engineering Science from The Pennsylvania State University. His doctoral research was on molecular motor-powered devices and cellulose nanocomposites. Since joining the faculty at IIT Kanpur in June 2009, his research group has actively working on wound healing materials, biodegradable packaging and functional composites for aerospace applications. In addition, his group is focussing on 3D printing and high temperature polymeric coatings.
His group's highly impactful work is backed by major funding from national agencies like DRDO, DBT, DST, SERB, and ICMR, as well as leading industrial partners. He has successfully mentored 12 Ph.D. scholars, 21 M.Tech. engineers, and over 40 summer interns from prestigious institutions across India. An active contributor to both the scientific community and institutional governance, Prof. Verma holds 10 granted/pending patents, and has taken on significant leadership roles at IIT Kanpur, including Senate Parliamentarian, SUGC Chairman, and DPGC Convenor. His dedication to academia has been recognized with the STE Green Excellence Award and the Shri Ram Arora Award
