Indian Scenario

Vehicles manufactured in India fall under the following categories:

  • Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles
  • Heavy and Medium Commercial Vehicles (Trucks, Tractor Trailers, Tippers)
  • Light and Small Commercial Vehicles, Buses, Defence Vehicles

While functionality and robustness is the criterion for Commercial Vehicles, Buses and Defence Vehicles, higher end features are generally implemented in Passenger Cars. These include:

  • Comfort features like Power Steering, Gear Shift Knobs, AC & HVAC Systems
  • Exterior features like Fog Lamps, Bumpers, Rub Rails on Doors, Wheel Covers
  • Internal features like RPM Meter, Digital Clock, Door Pads, Rear Defogger
  • Safety features like Central Locking, Key In / Out, Seat Belts, Audio Warning Signal for Seat Belts, Child Safety Locks, Head Lamp Leveling, Remote Release for Fuel / Trunk Lid etc.

Electronic Stability System does not exist in any vehicle. Only one variant of a Utility Vehicle has been found to carry the functionalities of Antilock Brakes, Dual Airbags and a Collapsible Steering Wheel.
