Highlights of Consulting Experience: |
As a consultant to Military Engineering Services (MES), our role was more like a mentor to MES and its other consultants on various aspects of the base-isolation technology to be used in a major hospital building for the first time in the country without any external help. We helped develop the design basis report, specifications for bearings, tender notices for international bidding, technical evaluation of vendors' design of bearings, negotiation for a better design at lower prices, review of the prototype tests on bearings and also of production bearings and other design details. |
For a US-based multi-national healthcare entity, peer reviewed the work performed by their engineering consultants (one of top structural design firms in the world) for seismic evaluation and retrofit of a manufacturing facility located in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. Helped develop a cost-effective strategy for seismic upgrade of their new facilities located in high seismic region, by qualifying the existing masonry to resist seismic loads through a series of analytical and experimental studies. |
Developed seismic design parameters and criteria for the design of two concrete gravity dams to be built in highly seismic active regions of Sikkim in Himalayas for a hydroelectric project developed by a multi-national firm. |
Delhi Government identified the Police Headquarter Building as one its lifeline building which should meet the requirements of immediate occupancy for future earthquakes. The building of 70's vintage, was to be analyzed as per nonlinear analysis procedures of the state-of-art NEHRP/FEMA documents to identify seismic deficiencies in quantitative terms. Further, such analyses were carried out to measure the effectiveness of various retrofitting options. This is the first time in the country when such analyses were carried out for a seismic retrofitting for a major public building. |
As a consultant to Indian Railways and RITES,New Delhi, we have helped analyse and design major railway bridges for seismic forces as per the state-of-art requirements, which often exceeded those of prevailing standards. Also developed a novel retrofitting strategy for a damaged top deck of newly constructed 50 m long pre-stressed box girder bridge using steel girders without altering its overall stress conditions including pre-stress conditions. |
Many critical equipment needs to be tested for their performance under seismic environment and shake table studies are required by many standards such as IEEE-693, Bellcore-GR-63, etc. At IIT Roorkee shake table many such tests were conducted for nuclear and other industrial applications. I was consultant to Central Power Research Institute, Bangalore in approving the acceptance of the six degrees-of-freedom, 10-ton payload capacity shake table imported from UK. |
