Abstract:
A tri-leaflet heart valve comprising an annular housing, three triangular
protrusions formed on the inner surface of the annular housing, three
spherical leaflets, three struts formed on the inner surface of the annular
housing ring, positioned between the triangular protrusions, to ensure
proper resting and sealing of the leaflets during reverse flow of blood, a
spherical strut formed on each flat surface of the three protrusions to
control the angular movement of the leaflets during flow of blood. Each
leaflet has a protrusion on either lateral surface, and is mounted to a
mounting cavity formed on two triangular protrusions on either side, for
being freely rotatable within the annular housing. The mounting cavity is
closer to the inner surface of the annular housing ring, to ensure
sufficient movement of the leaflet at very low forward pressure gradient.
